The First Amendment to the Constitution is supposed to protect religion and government from each other by forbidding laws that promote a religion or hinder its private worship.
So what about swearing on the Bible?
To me, swearing is meant as an affirmation of one’s honesty and integrity that places something the swearer holds dear equivalent with the swearing in the event. Just as someone would not forsake the thing they consider sacred, they would not forsake the honesty required for the event. In that case, forcing people to swear on the Bible, promotes Christanity, unless the court provides equal substitutes not only for various religions, but anything else that someone might revere.
In America we are a diverse nation with many freedoms, including the freedom of religious expression and the freedom not to practice religion at all. Therefore the court should posses a Quran for a Muslim, a Torah for a Jew, a Satanic Bible for a Santanist, a Book of Shadows for a Wiccan, a Sceintology Bible for a Sceintologist, and all other texts for recognized religions. So what about Atheists and unrecgonized religions, like Rastafarianism and Voodoo?
I believe the court should produce a non religious law text, or should just have people sign some sort of contract to tell the truth, rather than having to produce what ever substitute that someone may recognize as sacred.

Very interesting. I completely agree. To me, swearing on the bible means less than nothing, since I do not think the bible itself is truthful. Luckily, I am one of those people that believe in keeping my word, no matter what I swear on or don’t. You seems to know a lot of different religions and their books… You must study religions
cool!
There is also that thing about the pledge of allegiance… People can say that one can take “god” to be whatever they want it to be, but that does not change the fact that that is NOT how people take it, and what about people who do not believe in anything? Also, take a good look at the dollar bill, the “g” in god is capitalized… That indicates it is a name… If they were having it not be the name of a particular god, then it should NOT be capitalized!
lol, sorry, I am a little touchy on this subject
Anyways, I really like your blog.
ok, now for the critique using that sheet of paper from class!
Visual-
Maybe use a few pictures…. Or some good formatting, since I can’t think of any pictures that would fit… Good font/size consistency and paragraph length. The blog is a little short, maybe add another couple paragraphs.
Note: isn’t there suppose to be a description of an object somewhere in here?
Tone/Voice-
I like the casualness, though a little prickly. Voice is consistent though out.
Initial hook-
Not very engaging, but the subject pulled me in anyways. Maybe put something like that line between the first and second paragraph right at the beginning.
Organization-
Point is apparently that the state should do away with having people swear on the bible.
Transitions-
The transition between the last two paragraphs is a little rough, but overall they are good.
Word Choice-
Good.
Grammar/Spelling-
Fine.
Hope this helps! Sorry if I am a bit rough… I really like reading it!
