An old man with dark sun burnt skin and white hair is sitting at an airport all alone. He wears a white leisure suit with a peach colored undershirt and a safari style straw hat. As he sits his eyes are fixed studying an old crinkled map. Of all his apparent traveling characteristics the most evident item that identifies him as a traveler is his suitcase that sits at his feet.
One can get a true sense of how much this man has traveled just by the way his suitcase looks. It is an old fashioned suitcase; not like the ones seen today with zippers, retractable handles, and rolling wheels. Simply, just brass latches and a clear solid handle are attached to this rectangle shaped suitcase roughly large enough to fit a weeks worth of clothes, a pair of shoes, and room for a small souvenir inside. The covering on his suitcase consists of scratched and faded brown leather with an even darker brown leather trim along the edges. Along with the tattered leather and old school style this suitcase is covered with stickers.
It is easily recognizable which places he’s recently visited and which places he visited long ago by the fading and peeling of the stickers. For instance, Italy’s sticker is dark and faded of a chef holding up pasta, Paris’ sticker is glossy and of the Eiffel Tower, Australia’s stickers is peeling and of a kangaroo, while the “SEE ROCK CITY” sticker is faded and torn. These four stickers really give some kind of insight to all the places this suitcase has been and how long it has been traveling.
What item best identifies the act of traveling? Could it be clothes, airplanes, or highways? No, a suitcase identifies the act of traveling best. No matter where a person is from or where they travel they have a suitcase (or something like a suitcase) with them. It is an item everybody and identify with. Not only can everyone relate to a suitcase but also a suitcase can tell a story of the owner by the way it appears. There isn’t another item that can do the same and also relate to everybody.
Suitcases are the epitome of traveling. Leisurely travel has everything to do with luggage and suitcases. People need them to carry their belongings such as souvenirs and clothes. When people schedule vacations the first thing they do is pack their suitcases. It must be the excitement that can’t be contained which compels someone to start packing a week before they leave. When someone leaves to a new place, the only thing they have to relate to are the items inside their suitcase that they brought along.
Traveling allows me to relax, enjoy food, and see new sights; just as it does for most people. But traveling can more than just an extravagant way to see the world and relax; it can be a way to experience different cultures and human beings.
People should go out and travel to break out of their comfort zone and try new things a certain culture may expect. Case in point, people visiting an African tribe may have to accept eating bugs for dinner or sleeping on a dirt floor, which may not be relaxing, but it can help people to appreciate what they have and find a deeper meaning in life by experiencing how other cultures act.

heyya! Liked the opening! Wanna hear more about this old, did he play two? jk. Yes, traveling is very good, I endorse it!
Learning about other cultures is SOO interesting! I am trying to travel to Japan, and have been to Costa Rica (it was unbeleivably pretty!). Eating bug? ew!! ok, I have heard of worse things… Like eating other people… *shivers* it happens. Definitely NOT one of the new things I would want to try! But aside from the crazy stuff, I agree! Traveling is awsome!

meant to say “this old MAN” in the begining… my bad
Comment by Tierza-kun February 21, 2008 @ 4:15 amCan you get rid of all that space in the top? Great intro and you have a great way of writing! But can you add some of your personal info… like what stickers are on your suitcase and what did you learn when you went there?
Comment by chynnabond February 28, 2008 @ 3:00 amYour blog entry caught my eye because I wish to soon be an avid traveler. There are two things that I think my prove to improve your post. First, as a aspiring traveler, I would have enjoyed more information on nice locales to visit…maybe some places that are easy to miss unless you’re familiar with the area. Second, you could probably benefit from omitting ‘traveling is important to me the same way it is for most people’.
Comment by semaj bideux February 28, 2008 @ 11:19 amVisuals: There was too much space between the header and the text. It looks short because it is doubled-spaced. There were no photos. The last paragraph is indented and I think it is because it is what he wants the reader to take away. It is a reasonable enough size to make the reader inclined to read the whole thing.
Comment by chynnabond February 28, 2008 @ 2:28 pmTone/Voice: The voice sounds articulate. It does respect the reader and it credits the reader with average information on suitcases. The voice is consistent.
Initial Hook: The intro was great and it informed the reader of what the blog was about. The intro makes the reader want to read more.
Organization: Great arrangement.
1. Intro
2. the description
3. the stickers
4. why a suitcase best describes traveling
5. why suitcases are the epitome of traveling
6. traveling is important to the writer
7. why others should travel
Main Point: Suitcases are the symbols of traveling
Transition: Great connection between paragraphs
Word Choice: Good word choices
Grammar/Spelling: The blog was carefully written and I did not find any Grammar or Spelling errors.
Others: I would have like to have read some personal experiences about where the writer has traveled to toward the end of the entry and also a description of his suitcase.
This blog was very well written;however, there were some run-on sentences, so be careful! It was structured well. Great introduction to the story, it established a motivation for reading. You could mention what you would include inside the suitcase when visiting different places and why.The content of the blog is interesting, clear and selectively appropriate for the reader.
Comment by tremeshaholt February 28, 2008 @ 3:08 pmThe paragraphs had good lenght and the beggining of the story appealed a lot to me. Out of all of the blogs, I liked your item description best!!
Comment by odettesalazar February 28, 2008 @ 8:04 pmYour word choice and grammar are impeccable and overall, this is my favorite blog!
Your blog is very good, and it is vey well written, however, I think that it may come acros to the reader that the focal point of the blog is the old man, not necessarily the suitcase. It may be neat to make it seems as if the man is with the suitcase, instead of the suitcase with the man. (you get what i mean, cause that does sound a little weird, wish I could explain it aloud, sorry)
Comment by kwilson27 February 28, 2008 @ 9:43 pmthe intro was great, but the paper presents information that is already known, such as the use of suitcases. mayb u could do your blog on a souvenir, or take your blog in another direction, such as talking about the travels of a suitcase. liek what it has to go through while being used. u know..something creative. great details and title. it kind of sounds like this blog is for little kids, but it may be because the way u are takign this blog, there’s not much to write about a suitcase. you should take yourself out in some areas of the paper. EX: traveling is important, whereas traveling is important to me.
